Welcome to EKLA

Welcome to the East Kent Learning Alliance website.  We look forward to working with you.  In response to the national agenda of developing a self-improving school system, the strategic executive partner schools within the East Kent Learning Alliance (EKLA) have come together to lead a framework of training and professional  development for the benefit of all schools across the area.

EKLA is based on a ‘hub and spoke’ model, building on practice developed by specialist schools.  Each of our strategic partners: Dane Court Grammar School, King Ethelbert School, Hartsdown Academy, The Canterbury Academy, Herne Bay High School, Sandwich Technology School, Joy Lane Primary School, Herne CE Infant & Nursery School and Capel Le Ferne Primary School has strong and effective working relationships with their cluster of schools.

Our vision is to achieve school improvement through working collaboratively to co-ordinate inter-school support and provide highly effective, relevant, affordable and accessible training and professional development opportunities for all staff (teaching and non-teaching) within schools across the area.

We aim to achieve the vision through the selection, development and deployment of outstanding practitioners to support school leaders and raise standards across the system.

Our objectives are:

 • To attract, recruit and train high calibre new entrants to the profession.
 • To provide targeted and bespoke training and professional development.
 • To facilitate and support research and joint practice development.
 • To further develop leadership within and across schools, providing the capacity for supporting other schools.
